Fifth Conference

The Fifth Conference of PPA was held in Islamabad from May 4-6 1983. Allama Iqbal Open University again played the host. About 200 delegates from various parts of the country participated in the conference.

On Wednesday 4th May the Conference was started with the recitation of Holy Quran. It was inaugurated by Dr. Muhammad Afzal, the then- Education Minister of Pakistan. In his inaugural address Dr. Afzal emphasized the important role that Psychologists can play in the education of child. The Sectional President Dr. Iftikhar N. Hassan delivered her address on “Psychological Profile of Pakistani Women in the Light of Developmental Social Stereotypes.”

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Ahmed Mohiuddin, Vice Chanceller, Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad. The opening remarks were given by Dr. S. M. Moghni, President Pakistan Psychological Association. Then PPA Secretary General’s report was presented by Ms. Nargis Rasheed and messages were read by Dr. Zafar Afaq Ansari and Dr. Laeeq Mirza conveyed the vote of thanks. After inaugural tea there was a departure of conference delegates for Chak Shehzad.

A Scientific Session was held which was presided by Dr Iftikhar N. Hassan. Four Papers were presented and the speakers were Dr. Hamid Sheikh, Dr. Laeeq Mirza, Dr. Alay Ahmed and Dr. Mah Nazir Riaz. After lunch and prayers a Symposia was conducted. The topic was
“Ummah Character and Pakistani Nationhood” Hakeem Muhammad Saeed was the President and the speakers were Dr. S. M. Moghni, Dr. S. M. Rehman and Dr. Sabiha Hafeez. After tea and prayers the participants and delegates of the Conference visited the Folk Heritage in the Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage and then a dinner was served at Islamabad Hotel, Islamabad with musical events.

On Thursday 5th May in the morning four simultaneous sessions of papers presentations were presided by Sectional President and the Reporture were Ms. Ghosia Abbasi, Mr. Nauman Qureshi, Mr. Naeem Tariq and Mr. Naeem Durrani. After tea break a Symposium was held under the topic “Education and Cognitive Development”. It was presided by Mr. Saeed Ahmed Qureshi, Federal Secretary of Education. After lunch and prayers another Symposium was held. The topic was “Problems of Mental Health and Drug Abuse”. It was presided by Dr. Rasheed Chaudhry. After tea and prayers four simultaneous sessions of paper presentation presided by the Sectional President. The day ended after dinner at Hotel Intel Continental, Rawalpindi, with musical programs.

On Friday 6th May a Symposia was held under the topic “New Prospects for Psychological Research in Pakistan”. It was presided by Dr. Muhammad Ajmal and the reporture was Dr. Naseem Shaukat. After tea there was a General Body Meeting and Closing Session. Then the lunch was served and the participants went for the excursion trip.

Dr. Iftikhar N. Hassan was Elected President of the Association while Dr. Laeeq Mirza was Elected Vice President and Dr. Hamid Shaikh, the Secretary General
